Managing Samba with NetDirector.
Samba allows a Linux server to become a file and print server to a Windows™ network. It can also be a WINs server, Primary Domain Controller (PDC), Backup Domain Controller (BDC). The current version is Samba 3 and can completely replace a Windows™ server in a network.
Samba can be used to replace or augment an existing Windows Network servers for
- Authentication
- Authorization
- File and Printer sharing
- Name Resolution
- Network Browsing
- Join a NT Domain
Client PC's can be either Linux or Windows(95,98,NT,2000) based.
Samba uses the Server message block (SMB) to communicate to Windows™
machines. Since it places the SMB protocol in TCP/IP all clients of a
Samba server need to configured for TCP/IP also. To manage Samba on your Samba servers, select the Samba service from the Services. You will see the Samba Configuration screen:
