Grouping servers together facilitates working with them. For example, you can according to business organizations such as Finance or Marketing. You can to physical location such as Southeast. You can group servers according to services that they provide. This chapter explains how to organize servers into groups.

Note: Only NetDirector administrators can add and remove servers to the NetDirector System, or set their essential administrative properties. Netdirector users can group the servers they have access to in any intuitive fashion that they want.

Managing Groups

When you work in NetDirector, you are managing groups of servers or the services that they provide, or you are examining information on a particular server. To manage groups of servers, click the Groups button near the top of the window. This opens the Group Management tasks panel. The Groups tree shows all of the groups and servers that you can access. Servers are leaves in the tree.

Adding a new group

You can add a new group to any existing group.

To add a new group:

1. In the New Group Name field on the Group Management panel, type the name of the new group.
2. Click Create Group.

To add a new group that is a subgroup of another:

1. Check the group that you want for the parent.
2. In the New Group Name field, type the name of the new group.
3. Click Create Group.

To delete a group:

1. Check the group in the tree.
2. Click Delete Group.

Deleting a group does not impact the servers that belong to that group.

Adding servers to groups and removing them

The tree of servers and groups in the Group Management tasks panel is for adding groups and servers to groups and removing them.

To add servers to groups:

1. Click on the name of the group that you want to manage. That opens a new page for server management.
2. In the Service list, choose all services that you want to manage for this group of servers.
3. In the Available Servers list, choose the servers that you want to add to the group. Ctrl+click to select multiple servers. Then click move-right (>>). The Assigned Servers list shows the servers in the group.
4. Click Save to save your choices.

To remove servers from groups:

1. Click on the name of the group that you want to manage. That opens a new page for server management.
2. In the Assigned Servers list, choose the servers that you want to remove from the group. Ctrl+click to select multiple servers. Then click move-left (<<).
3. Click Save to save your work.
