Durham, N.C. / Toronto, Ontario (April 19, 2005) - When it comes to Linux management, one size definitely does not fit all. That's why Emu Software's NetDirector Linux Application Management Suite is built with an open API, and why Emu and Core Function have struck an alliance to help customers with their unique application management needs. Through this arrangement, Core Function can: - Integrate Emu's NetDirector with other tools, be they commercial, Open Source, or home grown
- Extend NetDirector to manage custom or non-standard applications
The Need for Tool Integration
The rapid growth of Linux leaves CIOs and IT Directors with heterogeneous server environments facing a difficult choice when evaluating management tools:
- Pursue a "Broad" approach by either trying to extend legacy tools to Linux or by implementing platform-agnostic tools, or
- Take a "Deep" approach by implementing tools specifically designed for Linux.
Each approach has pros and cons: Broad tools often sacrifice functionality, flexibility or simplicity to achieve comprehensiveness while Deep tools, though powerful, flexible and simple can result in tool proliferation in heterogeneous networks. Through the partnership announced Today, Emu and Core Function offer customers with heterogeneous networks a third option, the “Integrated” approach, which combines the best of the Broad and Deep approaches while avoiding their downsides.
“With this alliance, Emu and Core Function offer a superior solution to the problem of managing heterogeneous server environments,” Paul Unbehagen, Emu's CTO commented. “By working together, Emu and Core Function ensure that, as enterprises migrate workloads from legacy platforms to Linux, they can avoid the common pain point of maintaining multiple, disparate management interfaces. Combining the open API in Emu's NetDirector with Core Function's application integration expertise means that Systems Administrators can have one central console for the management of all their servers, without sacrificing tool depth.”
“There has been a need for robust Linux application management solutions for some time,” said Wade Olson, Core Function's CIO. “Emu's NetDirector fills this gap by providing an intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI) front end to their powerful Linux application management suite. Still, in many enterprises, there will continue to be some applications running on platforms other than Linux. Together, Core Function and Emu deliver a comprehensive approach to management tool consolidation in heterogeneous IT environments.”
