Server Pipeline: Open Approach to Alliances -5/19/06 |
Don St. John from Server Pipeline mentions Emu in his blog entry, "Mark Hinkle, VP of business development at founder member Emu Software, told me that the consortium is aiming for anything but a top-down approach. "In a typical consortium, a bunch of vendors come together and try to figure out how they can market their products; you can participate, but it;s based around their approach," he said. "We're more interested in starting a conversation; we like to think ours is a little more democratic right from the start."

Linux Beacon: Open Management Consortium to Drive Tool Integration - 05/15/06 |
Timothy Pritchett Morgan wrote an article titled, "Open Management Consortium to Drive Tool Integration" where he validates the needs for open source management tools.
"While this is all a necessary first step, in the long run, OMC will likely be the forge for a sophisticated systems management toolset. The members of the OMC took great pains to not position themselves against IBM's Tivoli, CA's Unicenter, and Hewlett-Packard's OpenView tools, which are the big three in systems management. "Replacement is not the goal--but integration with existing tools is," said Hinkle. While this is true, small and medium businesses don't use these big system management frameworks. They pay administrators to use all kinds of tools and write scripts and baby-sit machines." Read the full article here.

Emu Software was mentioned in Mark Fontecchio's article at TechTarget titled Server Specs: Open source systems management group tackles interoperability "Mark Hinkle, vice president of strategy and business development for Emu Software, used the analogy of a decathlon to describe the consortium. "There are very skilled athletes who are really good at the decathlon, but they're not the best at each event," he said. "I want to get athletes who specialize and are the best at each event. I think that's advantageous, that you can have someone in each area that is really good at it." Read the full article here. |

Sean Michaal Kerner mentioned Emu Software at InternetNews.com and quoted Emu Software Vice President, Mark R. Hinkle.
We're not going to kid you; our interests are for our company," Mark Hinkle, vice president of strategy at Emu Software, told internetnews.com. But I'd like to think we're a bit enlightened in that when you go out there and foster innovation, it creates a lot of opportunity for ourselves as well as others. "If we go out there and help create this ecosystem, there is a place for everyone in the ecosystem. It doesn't have to just be little fish and sharks; it can be all sorts of people," Hinkle added." Computer Business Review Online - Open source vendors create sys man consortium - 5/9/06 |
Emu Software was mentioned by Matthew Aslett in the Computer Business Review in his article Open Source Vendors Create Sys Man Consortium. Excerpt: "OMC co-founder and Emu Software vice president of strategy, Mark Hinkle, said the companies involved had seen the success of open source stacks in other areas such as the Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP/Perl/Python LAMP stack and wanted to replicate that in systems management.
"The modularity of systems administration applies itself to that," he said, "What we're looking for is to make people aware that you can build a single management console and it's not necessary to have a single vendor for that."
Hurley and Hinkle said the goal of the OMC is not to create a single open source systems management framework to compete with the likes of CA, BMC Software, IBM's Tivoli, or HP's OpenView, and maintained that an aim is to improve interoperability with those vendors' products."Read the full article here. |
