Starting with version 3.0 of NetDirector, the NetDirector framework was expanded to allow third parties to add plug-ins to extend the services under management.
The following services and capabilities are part of the core NetDirector program and are installed by default:
- HTTP (Apache)
- DNS (BIND)
- DHCP
- File and Print Services (Samba, NFS)
- Email (Postfix, Sendmail)
- FTP (VSFTP)
- Ability to manage Users and Groups across servers
With this new easily extendable architecture you can choose to add a quickly growing list of additional plug-ins.

Red Hat Network Plugin - Free and Open Source |
The module works by sending AJAX calls
to the NetDirector server manager which in turn sends a set of
instructions to either the RHN server or to the remote server. This
approach allows the Server Manager to either tell the RHN server to
do something or to retrieve information about its current environment
of the selected servers in the server tree. Also by being able to
send instructions to the up2date agent directly, this module can run
the up2date command and give it instructions like, for example,
switch from hosted to an RHN satellite server.
Its benefits:
Manage the patching and
provisioning of the RHN through the central console of the ND UI
Central console for installing and
then configuring services on multiple servers at once
Easier to install an app on an ad
hoc set of servers selected from the NetDirector UI server tree
instead of setting up a Channel.
Interactively see a list of apps
that are available to be installed, Installable, & upgradeable
on the fly.
Review errata dynamically through the NetDirector UI

Kerberos - Free and Open Source |
The NetDirector Kerberos Plug-in supports the configuration of the MIT implementation of the Kerberos protocol. The NetDirector Kerberos plug-in provides an inherently secure system for well-defined authorization schemas. The Kerberos plug-in allows the system administrator to enjoy the simplicity and ease of use of a web-based UI for role-based, cross-platform authentication while providing the ability to initiate very fine-grained modifications to the authorizations.
The NetDirector Kerberbos Plug-in is an important add-on to the NetDirector Samba and NetDirector LDAP Plug-ins. In conjunction with Samba, Kerberos allows users to join Windows Active Directory domains. To duplicate a Windows active directory controller you can configure Kerberos, an LDAP server (implementing the Windows 2000 AD Schema), and a CIFS server (Samba) you can provide an almost equivalent expereince to using Windows 2000 server and Active Directory.

The NetDirector LDAP Plug-in extends NetDirector's management infrastructure to fully manage LDAP installations. As with all NetDirector plug-ins, the LDAP plug-in can be regulated through NetDirector's role-based access, records can be pushed to multiple LDAP stores at once, and all can be administered from a single intuitive web interface. Working in concert with NetDirector's Kerberos Plug-in and Samba configuration, you get a complete, powerful Web GUI Admin console for Windows, Linux and UNIX authentication and Single-Sign on.
